EXODUS 29:45
In reading Exodus 29-31 I came across 29:45…
I will dwell among the people of Israel and will be their God. And they shall know that I am the Lord their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt that I might dwell among them. I am the Lord their God.
God repeats two different statements here and there is another statement sandwiched between them…
God has delivered his people from Egypt in order to dwell with them. He has done the same for us gentiles in Christ, as we see here in 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20:
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
We were bought with a price and now the Holy Spirit dwells in us. Delivered so God may dwell. Do you know God this way? As your deliverer? As your savior? As your God? You won’t know him personally until you trust him for who he his.
He delivers us so that he may dwell in us and transform us. No doubt this process takes time and is difficult. Heck, the Israelites are found by Moses worshipping a golden statue only 3 chapters later! But that is why we need Jesus. After all, the gospel is for sinners.
