Singing songs of praise… we don’t do that very often. It is kind of a weird thing, to sing about something you love so much. Once in a while there are songs attached with sports games after a team wins, but even that is rare.

And yet here it is commanded of us, to praise and worship in joyful noise to our God and King…

Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The seats his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.

Why do we do this? Why do we gather with other Christians to sing worship songs? It must seem so strange for someone who isn’t religious.

Because the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. That’s why.

We praise God because he is worthy of praise. We worship him because he deserves it. Not only for who he is but for what he has done. He is our creator and our savior. He is worthy!

To be a christian and not want to shout to the Lord in praise and sing songs of joy to him seems…. strange, no? This is why God has saved us, to worship him in our lives and in song. It is all over scripture (Isaiah 44:23; 1 Peter 2:9).

He will be worshiped and praised for all eternity. Let’s start practicing now!
