Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, and glory in you praise.
I love this verse because first of all, God has saved us. Praise to his name and glory in his praise is happening. This is what the Christmas season is all about. Worshipping God for sending his son to save us!
And yet while we have been saved, that nations are still being gathered and the holy name of God isn’t fully worshipped. There is more to come. Salvation has been finalized for all but is yet to be realized and enjoyed and fully experienced. I love this verse because although we have been saved, the best is still yet to come!
And so we can wait for the second coming of God the way Jews waited for the Messiah. We can anticipate and hope. We can long and mourn and pray on the edge of our seats.
Any day now he could be here. Save us, Oh LORD!
