1 KINGS 1-4

Benaiah the son of Jehoida comes up 13 times in 1 Kings 1-4. Four things I love about Benaiah…

  1. Loyalty. He sticks with David through thick and thin. Because of this David has trusted him and has given him an intimate position of head over his body guards.
  2. Faith. He knows David’s LORD and I don’t think it is too far of a stretch to say he trusts God for his own salvation. Just read 1 Kings 1:36, 37 to see him affirm God’s promises.
  3. Obedience. Everything Solomon asks him to do, he does. So much so that he becomes Solomon’s hit man taking out Adonijah, Shimei, and Joab.
  4. Bad Ass. Everyone is afraid of Benaiah because the dude can slay. After he takes out Joab he becomes head over the army. What a stud.

I love being reminded of this character. We named our oldest son Benaiah for this reason and when I remember, I try to pray some of these things over him.
