1 KINGS 1-4
Benaiah the son of Jehoida comes up 13 times in 1 Kings 1-4. Four things I love about Benaiah…
- Loyalty. He sticks with David through thick and thin. Because of this David has trusted him and has given him an intimate position of head over his body guards.
- Faith. He knows David’s LORD and I don’t think it is too far of a stretch to say he trusts God for his own salvation. Just read 1 Kings 1:36, 37 to see him affirm God’s promises.
- Obedience. Everything Solomon asks him to do, he does. So much so that he becomes Solomon’s hit man taking out Adonijah, Shimei, and Joab.
- Bad Ass. Everyone is afraid of Benaiah because the dude can slay. After he takes out Joab he becomes head over the army. What a stud.
I love being reminded of this character. We named our oldest son Benaiah for this reason and when I remember, I try to pray some of these things over him.
