ACTS 2:23

this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men – Acts 2:23

This is one of the most amazing verses in the Bible to me. It was clearly the plan, will, and doing of God that Jesus was crucified. And yet it was clearly these men who were responsible for crucifying and killing Jesus. But it was God’s plan. But they are responsible. What?

I have no idea how these things work in congruency with one another. All I know is that scripture holds both up.

God is sovereign.

We are responsible and accountable.

Nobody acts like a robot. God is not a puppeteer moving people independent of their own desires and wills. Everyone does what they are driven to do by their own decision making.

And yet God is over it all working out his plan. Accomplishing his will through the will of sinful men and women.

Instead of trying to figure this all out, I prefer to turn to God in worship and awe knowing this is in some sense a mystery. It makes him even more worthy of praise. Because this God came in the flesh so that we could come close to him. Thank you Jesus.
