PSALM 123:1

To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens! Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he has mercy upon us. – Psalm 123:1-2

These are verses of waiting. Of trust. Of anticipation….. of mercy. They long for help. To be delivered. To come up out from some hard situation. And their response is to turn their eyes to the God who is enthroned in the heavens.

This is so hard but so necessary. My eyes are so often turned in to myself. Or turned down in despair. Or turned out, focused on my situation. But he lifts his eyes up to God. Such a posture of humility and dependence.

A God that is enthroned in the heavens!! He lifts his eyes up to see God in His glory. Sitting on this throne looking out on his kingdom. This inspires such hope, even when needing and waiting for mercy.

Thank you Jesus that you ARE enthroned in the heavens. You are sovereign. You are merciful. You are great. You are worthy of praise. You are majestic. You are all wise. Help me to lift my eyes to you. To recognize your presence and glory in the midst of my own sin and hardships and despair. Turn my eyes to see you and in seeing you to treasure you and in treasuring you, filling my heart with faith and hope for today. Amen.
