1 KINGS 12:15
So the king did not listen to the people, for it was a turn of affairs brought about by the LORD that he might fulfill his word, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
Here it is again. Our choices and responsibilities coinciding with God’s sovereignty and oversight.
The Bible doesn’t shy away from this, then neither should we.
The part of this that particularly intrigues me is how terrible of a king Jeroboam turns out to be. It is like he tries his hardest to turn Israel away from God. And yet God brings this about. Why? For what purpose do you orchestrate a coup?
Well we can’t forget Jeroboam is responsible for his actions. God gives him a chance to lead in a Godly way and he clearly rejects that. So what is this all about?
Well it goes back to Solomon’s sin. He turned away from God and as a result, he tears the kingdom away from Rehoboam, except for Judah….. the line of the Messiah.
How easy it would be for people during this day to be confused and frustrated with God. How easy it is for me NOW to do this. We cannot forget God is on the throne, ruling over the affairs of men. He is sovereign even as culture turns hostile towards Jesus and the Gospel.
