1 KINGS 14:8-9
and yet you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commandments and followed me with all his heart, doing only that which was right in my eyes, but you have done evil above all who were before you and have gone and made for yourself other gods and metal images, provoking me to anger, and have cast me behind your back
Jeroboam is not exactly the king that David was. In fact, he was about as opposite as he could have been.
Side note: I find it interesting how it describes David here. You would think he was a perfect king. I know he really loved God but I wonder why it overlooks the sin he committed?
Jeroboam does everything God asks him not to do. He rejects him and does as he pleases, completely ignoring how God had set worship up in Jerusalem. He casts God behind his back.
And yet it was even for Jeroboam that the Messiah would come to die so that God could put our sins behind his back. Thank you Jesus for being patient with me. For being gracious to me when I don’t deserve it. Even though I have sinned greatly, I thank you for sending Jesus to die in my place so that my sins are separated as far as the east is from the west and you no longer remember them!
