Top 5 Things I’m Looking Forward to for Fall 2017
This August will be my 6th fall launch in full time college ministry! And although things feel similar, they are also very different from when I initially came on staff. So what has changed and what am I really looking forward to this year?
Number Five – Being a Campus Director
Some staff have said that being a campus director is the best job The Navigators has to offer. We will see if that is true! Either way, I’m excited for the challenge this new role brings. I’m in charge of leading the ministry, setting the pace, organizing and overseeing the staff… essentially if it burns to the ground I have to answer for it!
I pray that doesn’t happen. But already I have loved setting structure for the ministry, delegating staff roles and seeing them thrive in their giftings, and seeing a vision begin to take shape.
Number Four – Core
We are trying something new this year… Core! The core of our ministry and the Christian walk is found in God loving us and in turn, then changing us. His love is most evident at the cross.
Our goal for Core then is to 1) Celebrate the gospel and 2) Make disciples. We hope to see students know and feel in deeper ways God’s love for them in the gospel. And as this stirs in us worship for God, we want to turn out and be missional where God has us. This is for all students and we hope it helps us raise up key leaders in the ministry.
I’m also kind of nervous about this and it is touching my insecurities as I fear failure!
Number Three – Staff Team
Our entire staff team from last year is coming back. This means a whole year of relational history to work from and familiarity with the ministry. They make it easy for me to lead and I’m looking forward to another year of deeper friendships!
Number Two – Sophomore Bible Study
I will be co-leading a sophomore Bible study (community group) with a senior student (Dayton) who graduates in December. I’m looking forward to getting to know Dayton better and to see what God does in the lives of these sophomore guys who I don’t know terribly well.
I’m also looking forward to studying Galatians with them. My first year on EDGE we studied this in the Spring and it changed my life. I’m praying God does the same in these dudes.
Number One – Semester Theme
As the campus director I decided we should have a theme to each semester. So this Fall our theme is “Faithful and Dependent”.
We want to be faithful in what God has called us to on campus but also incredibly depending on him in that work, for only He can do the internal heart surgery. John 15:5 is a verse we are using to rally around, “I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.”
